Please don't refer to Abkhazia and South Ossetia as "breakaway Georgian provinces." South Ossetia was once united with North Ossetia and that area has historically been part of Russia; the inhabitants are ethnically and linguistically very different from the Georgians.<BR/><BR/>Both South Ossetia and Abkhazia have been oblasts (autonomous territories) since at least the 1920s, if not before.
