Remember how in 'The Wire' police played fast and loose with statistics?

You know, classifying murder as suicide, and assault as burglary, all the better to make violent crime stats better for the old/new mayor?

Glad that that does not happen in the real world, and that 'The Wire' is complete fiction, having no relation to reality.

Injured World Series reveler dies, from Thursday, November 8, 2012.

A 37-year-old man seriously injured while celebrating the Giants' World Series win last week has died of head trauma, police said Thursday.
Sean Moffitt died at San Francisco General Hospital on Oct. 30 after hurting his head during the celebration two days earlier in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, said Officer Gordon Shyy, a police spokesman.
Before losing consciousness, Moffitt told his roommate he had been assaulted by four men with a metal pipe, according to the roommate. But police said Thursday it was more likely Moffitt was hurt accidentally during the revelry.
"The victim may have been involved in celebratory events," Shyy said. "He may have been injured, not necessarily assaulted."
 And there you go.

He got hit in some "celebratory" activities, perhaps? Stay away from celebrations, I guess. Celebrate and die, I suppose. What he actually said must be discounted because he wasn't there so how would he know? Or wait, something like that.

police & or politicians "juke" the stats. god forbid a sabremetrician should ever research crime. the authorities also "reverse juke" the stats - changing the definition of a crime to increase the #, thereby creating an uproar -- a la "sex trafficking" or "hate crime"- oddly, the authorities don't keep stats on hate crime HOAXES. wonder why!

True reality. This is more about politics. These people amend statistics to hide their failure.
