1 in 99 adult americans in jail, statistics say

Yes, really. 1 in every 99 Americans are in jail.

This is a staggering number for an industrialized, first world country.
Beyond shocking.

We are number 1 in incarceration - in %, we are number 1 in jailed citizens.

And who will protect America when these millions of people are released back into society?

Why......

Super Hillary!

I heard the stat too on CNN. It's insane. Are we living in 1984? What I didn't hear is what percentage is violent criminals and what percentage is soft drug crimes and 3 strikers. I heard Angela Davis speak and she wrote a book I believe about how there is a prison industry in this country and how incarceration is political and targeted towards the poor and minorities. I'm having a beer now and too damn lazy to google it.

Check out what Existentialist Cowboy and BlueBloggin ( Texan blogs ) think and you will not be in any doubt that it is "1984" : and has been for some time. I don't recall where I ran into an article about prisoner abuse by civil authority - but Gitmo/Abu Ghraib are symptoms of widespread vileness. I'm sure I saw shots purporting to have been of acid caused skin damage on prisoners.
